Clockwork Control v1.10.1: Reorderable Site Settings Modules, Complete Gatekeeper LLAR Sunsetting, and UI Refinements

Clockwork Control v1.10.1 delivers drag-and-drop reorderable site settings module cards with asynchronous persistence, the complete sunsetting of the legacy LLAR module in favor of native Gatekeeper, server fleet UI simplifications, mobile navigation icon color consistency, and scheduled job recording reliability fixes.

Hot on the heels of our v1.10.0 milestone release, Clockwork Control v1.10.1 is now available. This release delivers flexible UI personalization for per-site settings, finalizes our architectural transition to native Gatekeeper login defense, refines navigation typography and action buttons, and resolves background job recording in the Scheduled Jobs dashboard.

Here is a full breakdown of what is included in Clockwork Control v1.10.1.

1. Reorderable Site Settings Modules (/sites/{site}?tab=settings)

Every WordPress site in your agency has different operational priorities. For an e-commerce store behind Cloudflare, you want the Cloudflare cache purge and SSL certificate cards front and center. For a high-traffic brochure site on a strict maintenance contract, you care most about Care Plan tiers and Uptime Monitoring thresholds.

In Clockwork Control v1.10.1, the per-site Settings tab (/sites/{site}?tab=settings) now supports custom card reordering across all 10 site configuration cards:

  • Cert details
  • Cloudflare CDN & Edge Cache
  • WordPress security
  • Server tools
  • Care plan tier
  • Uptime monitoring
  • Site status & maintenance
  • Companion mu-plugin
  • Contact form testing
  • Gatekeeper login protection

How It Works

  • Fluid Drag-and-Drop: Grab any card by its dedicated grip handle to drag and reorder it visually within the viewport.
  • Accessible Keyboard & Touch Controls: Every card features up and down chevron buttons for fast, single-tap adjustments on mobile screens and keyboard navigation.
  • Instant Asynchronous Persistence: Reordering fires an immediate PATCH /sites/{site}/settings-layout request, saving the array of card keys into the nullable JSON column sites.settings_layout. A subtle toast notification confirms the change without requiring a page reload.
  • DOM-Preserving Movements: Cards are rearranged directly in the DOM rather than re-rendered, preserving form state, open modals (e.g., certificate editor, probe subscriber management, Gatekeeper overrides), and active event listeners.
  • One-Click Reset: A “Reset default layout” button sends reset=1, immediately restoring the canonical card order.
  • Backward-Compatible Schema: Helper methods Site::DEFAULT_SETTINGS_LAYOUT and Site::resolvedSettingsLayout() ensure that newly registered module cards seamlessly append to customized layouts, preventing new features from disappearing.

2. Complete LLAR Sunsetting & Gatekeeper Transition

In v1.8.1, we introduced Gatekeeper, our zero-dependency, native brute-force login lockout engine embedded directly inside Clockwork Companion and Clockwork Renegade.

With Clockwork Control v1.10.1, the transition from Limit Login Attempts Reloaded (LLAR) to Gatekeeper is complete:

  • Legacy Module Removed: The legacy modules/Llar package, its provider registration, and module catalog entry have been completely removed from the Clockwork Control repository.
  • Artisan & Controller Cleanup: Retired clockwork:install-llar, the LlarInstaller service, and the POST /sites/{site}/install-llar endpoint.
  • WordPress Plugins Hub Standardized: The WordPress Plugins Hub (/settings/wordpress-plugins) now displays native Gatekeeper status (Active, Overridden, Disabled, or No Companion) with a dedicated “Missing Gatekeeper” filter to quickly pinpoint unprotected client sites.
  • Native Lockout Ingestion: The lockout puller now pulls exclusively from the Gatekeeper REST endpoint (/wp-json/clockwork/v1/lockouts) and the native clockwork_lockouts database table. Legacy scraping of third-party plugin tables has been phased out entirely.

3. Server Fleet & Mobile Navigation Polish

Clockwork Control v1.10.1 introduces thoughtful interface cleanups designed to keep high-frequency operator workflows fast and focused:

  • Contextual “Add Server” Placement: Removed the global “Add Server” button from the top-right application header across all pages, keeping server provisioning localized to the /servers directory page header where it belongs.
  • Streamlined Server Action Buttons: Simplified button labels on /servers to clean, uncluttered action pills:
    • Table toggle simplified from “Data Grid” to “Grid” (perfectly balancing “Cards”).
    • Single-provider sync simplified from “Refresh Servers” to “Refresh”.
    • Tag management simplified from “Manage Tags” to “Tags”.
  • Sites Directory Status Pill Color: Corrected the active Companion and Renegade status pills on the /sites fleet list view to standard status-green (and status-yellow when unreachable), ensuring visual consistency across all directory rows.
  • Mobile Navigation Drawer: Unified icon colors in the mobile navigation drawer to brand blue (text-[var(--color-brand)]) across Issues, Monitoring, AiRemedy, and Settings.
  • Font Awesome Free Compatibility: Standardized EmailAuth navigation icons to fa-solid fa-envelope-circle-check, ensuring complete compatibility with open-source Font Awesome Free icon sets.

4. Scheduled Jobs Dashboard Reliability (/settings/scheduled-jobs)

The Scheduled Jobs dashboard introduced in v1.7.0 provides complete visibility into cron tasks. In v1.10.1, we resolved several edge cases affecting scheduler reporting:

  • Background Job Exit Codes: Fixed false-failure reporting on background tasks configured with ->runInBackground(). The scheduler now acknowledges that ScheduledTaskFinished dispatches with a null exit code upon process fork, and listens for ScheduledBackgroundTaskFinished to record the real final status.
  • Listener Deduplication: Eliminated a duplicate event listener registration in AppServiceProvider that caused scheduler events to record twice.
  • Resilient Exception Handling: Wrapped SshClient::exec in WpPluginDetector and S3 bucket verification calls in PullBackupRelayReport with robust exception guards, preventing firewalled remote servers or AWS 403 errors from halting scheduled maintenance tasks.
